John William Ferrell is an American actor.
Biography[]
Will Ferrell was cast as Richard "Coach Brink" Brinkerhoff in Vought Studios’ biographical drama Training A-Train. To prepare for the role, director Adam Bourke had Ferrell spend two weekends at the Compton Youth Center.
During filming, Bourke shot a scene set in an inner-city housing project featuring A-Train working as a runner for local drug dealers. Ferrell, as Coach Brink, attempts to convince him to abandon crime and return to track.
After the take, Bourke enthusiastically praised Ferrell’s performance, even comparing him to Meryl Streep. Ferrell, however, expressed concern about the film’s tone, asking Bourke if his portrayal was coming across with "too much of a Blind Side vibe." Bourke brushed it off with a grin, replying, "As if that’s a bad thing," and then confidently declaring, "I smell an Oscar nomination." Delighted, Ferrell left the set to watch playbacks of his performance, newly invigorated by the director’s praise.[1]
