The Boys #6 is the sixth issue of The Boys and the sixth and final part of Volume One: The Name of the Game. This is also the final issue of The Boys published by Wildstorm. It was originally published on December 27, 2006.
Plot[]
While the rest of the Boys brutally pummel the Teenage Kix, Hughie is forced to fight Blarney Cock. An inexperienced fighter, Hughie panics as Blarney Cock claws at him and eventually throws a desperate punch, which pierces straight through Blarney Cock's abdomen and kills him. Butcher gently reprimands Hughie for this, while Mother's Milk comforts Hughie. As the Kix are defeated, a hamster crawls its way out of Blarney Cock's anus. Taking sympathy on the animal, Hughie decides to take it with him. Butcher tells the rest to go inside, while lamenting that the Supes are going to have "one of those fucking funerals" now.
At the Seven's base, Jack from Jupiter is surprised how public the Boys' fight with the Teenage Kix was, and wonders if perhaps the Boys aren't what they used to be. Homelander, however, cautions against underestimating Butcher, especially after what happened to Lampligher. At the Flatiron, Butcher tells Mother's Milk he let Hughie have a few days off. Together, they wonder who could have tipped the Kix off.
Later, Butcher and Hughie watch Blarney Cock's funeral on TV, attended by Vic the Veep, Blarney's teammates, and numerous other heroes, with the Seven being notably absent. Publicly, Blarney Cock's death is blamed on "time terrorists." Later, Hughie tells Butcher that he can't stay, as he feels guilty over killing someone. Butcher assures Hughie he won't try to stop him, but lets him know that he thinks he's making a mistake. Hughie wonders why Butcher cares about spying on superheroes and keeping them scared. Butcher confides in Hughie that a Supe raped his wife, and he only found out about it after reading her diary. He also recounts her gruesome death at the hands of a super-powered fetus, which he was forced to beat to death with a lampstand. Butcher claims that he knows who did it, and will have his revenge one day. When Hughie asks who it was, Butcher simply replies that it was one of the "big boys." He then reveals that Supes have a casualty allowance, similarly to police tactical units. Unlike the police, however, the casualty allowance for Supes is at 60 percent, instead of 20. This is because Supes aren't trained, but the government is too scared of them to go against him, so the Boys act as a countermeasure. Butcher says that it used to be simpler, as the Boys used to keep an eye on the Supes for the Government, while corporations backed the Supes. Nowadays, however, while President Shaefer hates the Supes, his vice-president, Vic the Veep, used to be the head of Vaught American, meaning they are one bad day away from a Supe-friendly president. Hughie asks if this is the reason Butcher wants him to stay, but the latter clarifies it's because Hughie is good at it, and has a score to settle, but also because he always wanted a little brother.
The Seven hold a press-conference, where Homelander introduces their newest member, Starlight, although the latter is clearly uncomfortable with how revealing her new costume is. The Boys watch this on TV. M.M. asks Butcher if he thinks there might be a few Supes that have their hearts in the right place. Butcher asserts that, even if there are, "fuck 'em."
