The Boys #4 is the fourth issue of The Boys and the fourth part of Volume One: The Name of the Game. It was originally published on October 25, 2006.
Plot[]
As the Teenage Kix are enjoying a night of orgies and debauchery at a brothel, they are being unknowingly spied on by the Boys. Meanwhile, Homelander formally introduces Starlight to the rest of the Seven during their meeting and invites her to say a few words. Starlight is uncomfortable for obvious reasons, and made even more so when A-Train makes fun of her. With that, Homelander moves on to the Deep's concerns regarding merchandizing.
Hughie is shocked at the depravity of the Kix, and asks Butcher if all Supes are like that, to which the latter replies that most have some kink or another. He adds that the brothel they are observing is the only one to service Supes, as prostitutes can't physically endure copulating with Supes for long. Hughie also observes the prostitutes snorting a blue powder which, Butcher explains, allows them to keep up with Supes for a time.
At the Seven's base, A-Train is violently reprimanded by Homelander for his behavior, which Starlight witnesses. Homelander threatens A-Train both physically and verbally to behave "in front of the money." Meanwhile, Butcher is having sex with Rayner. After they're done, he retrieves a vile of an unknown substance, which he requires for "doing the job."
The Boys continue their surveillance on the Kix, and record their various misdeeds, which include stealing drugs from a children's hospital, self-harm, as well as affairs with celebrities and among team members. During this time, Butcher checks in on Hughie while the latter is doing surveillance and is pleased to learn Hughie has settled into his new job well. Suddenly, Butcher injects Hughie with a vial he retrieved from Rayner earlier. Horrified, Hughie demands to know what he's been injected with, to which Butcher replies that it was Compound V, which is required for members of the Boys to survive physical confrontations with the Supes. While most of the Compound V on the street is cut, like the coke the hookers were snorting at the brother earlier, the strain Hughie was injected with was pure, meaning that the physical changes Hughie will experience will be permanent. Butcher goes on to explain that the substance was invented in the 1930s by a German scientist, and that all Supes are the result of Compound V exposure. Aghast at the prospect of his DNA being altered, Hughie asks what will happen to him, but Butcher assures him that it will only make him fifteen to twenty times stronger than he was and "turn his shit blue." Hughie is upset that Butcher would inject him without his consent before Hughie even decided he would be joining the Boys, and decides to return to Glasgow. That night, at his hotel room, Hughie packs his bags, but then reconsiders and decides to sleep on it, but not before witnessing a blood-stained semen puddle form underneath his door.
