Aw, fuck, I got to go. She's super pissed at me. Sloane, wait!
―Maverick to Jordan Li regarding Sloane.[src]

Samuel Schecht, better known as Maverick, is a recurring character in the Amazon series Gen V, a spin-off series of The Boys.

He is a student at Godolkin University and the son of Translucent, a deceased former member of The Seven.

Background[]

Maverick was born in the early 2000s, and shortly after his birth, his parents accepted Vought's offer to inject him with Compound V, subsequently transforming him into a Supe and granting him superhuman powers and abilities. Sometime later, Maverick's parents divorced early on in his life. Nevertheless, he continued to spend time with his father, strengthening their bond.[1]

As a young adult, Maverick decided to follow in his father's footsteps and become a superhero, furthering his education at Godolkin University and majoring in crimefighting at the prestigious Lamplighter School of Crimefighting. While at the university, Maverick eventually became an R.A. and formed a deep romantic relationship with Sloane.

Powers and Abilities[]

Powers and Abilities[]

  • Carbon Skin: Maverick possesses the ability to rearrange his skin into a carbon metamaterial, granting him an assortment of abilities. However, likely due to his age, Maverick's powers aren't on par with those of his late father, Translucent. Due to this, Maverick can only maintain his metamaterial state while he is conscious.
    • Invisibility: In his metamaterial state, Maverick is completely invisible due to his carbon skin bending the light around him. Unfortunately, this does not apply to his clothes, forcing him to be naked in order for his powers to be effective.
    • Superhuman Durability: Maverick possesses superhuman durability, making him more durable than humans. While the full extent of Maverick's durability is unknown, he managed to survive a strike from a motor blade wielded by Marie Moreau.
  • Superhuman Strength: Maverick possesses superhuman strength, which makes him stronger than humans and some Supes. With his strength, he overpowered Marie in a fight, throwing her back several feet.
  • Superhuman Hearing: Maverick possesses superhuman hearing, allowing him to hear better than humans. Like all Supes, he can hear higher frequencies that humans cannot.[2]

Weaknesses[]

Biological[]

  • Brute Force/Limited Durability: Despite being more durable than humans, Maverick can still be stunned, knocked unconscious, and killed by extreme force. Marie hits Maverick with a motor blade, knocking him unconscious and bruising him.
  • High Frequencies: Due to being a Supe, Maverick is susceptible to high frequencies. When a high frequency is playing, it can induce immense pain and temporarily neutralize him. During a massacre at Godolkin University, Maverick is momentarily neutralized through the use of a high-frequency alarm.

Trivia[]

  • In Season One, Maverick is ranked 22 in the student rankings.
